An inspiration more than 7 years ago for me was that the God of the Bible had begun the end of Western Civilization in 1914. Western civilization died during WWI. What we’ve known of it has been its decaying corpse.
WWI seemed to some to have had a mind of its own like some living thing. God’s involvement would account for that.
I’ve heard it attributed to British Prime Minister William Gladstone that a statesman is someone who is sensitive to God’s activity in the affairs of man and therefore arranges his policies accordingly.
Our American leaders in 1917 failed that statesmanship test by entering us into that war. So we have forfeited God’s grace also.
Homosexual marriage was made the law of the land through judicial fiat. Our society seemed to accept homosexual marriage. Irrationality had become normalized in our society.
The results of the 2012 Republican presidential nomination race showed me that we have allowed ourselves to have abysmally poor leaders
These shortcomings strongly indicate an absence of God’s leading of us.
All civilization is of God. Humans cannot sustain civilization without God’s grace.
If the God of the Bible removed His illuminating grace from us, we would tear down, as we are now tearing down, our civilization with our own hands.
So, what do we do now? Is God recycling us to make room in His plan for a new civilization? Or is He taking us for a look into the abyss to scare us straight? I’d rather it be the scaring. My guess is that it’s the recycling.
Maybe its bunker time for me but I have a hard time with that. At 77, the survivalist trip just might not be a good fit for me.
But intellectual curiosity calls.
President John Adams wrote that our constitution was made only for a religious and a moral people and that it is unsuitable for any other than a religious and a moral people.
So, what does a polity of such a religious and a moral people look like? And, what exactly is freedom. What does “all men are created equal” mean? What kind of society is it that cherishes and sustains this freedom? Where does government fit into this picture? And since it is basic to these matters, what does true Christianity look like?
It might be nice to have some idea given all that we are going through.
I’m blogging as an outlet for what comes from inside of me. I’m doing this out of some internal need and I do not expect many to take an interest in it. But I would be pleasantly surprised if they did.
Perhaps there are people out there who wonder how it all went wrong and what would we want to be if we had another chance.
Anyway, I should be posting as I get inspirations that nag me.
For a start, paid subscription is not in my plan.
Beyond that, I can’t think of anything else.
So let me know what you think.
